Today, June 26, 2015, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the states no longer have the right to oppose gay marriage! This is a joyous day for many couples in the U.S., as well as those individuals in favor of equal rights. Before the ruling, 36 states had already recognized gay marriage while the remaining states passed laws to ban it. The decision was reached by a five to four ruling supporting the Fourteenth Amendment which states that citizens of the United States should have “equal protection under the law”. In the 28 page ruling, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy states, “They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law, […] The constitution grants them that right.” Today, love wins.
