Makeup has been used by women and men for over six thousand years. Ancient people in Sumer and Egypt decorated their face with crushed gems. This form of art was a way for people to show their place in society. It was about embracing the face and enhancing human features. That is what makes makeup beautiful; you can literally draw attention to the parts of your face that you prefer.
Today it is not so much like that. Both men and women strive to achieve the two dimensional bone structure look thanks to countless face contouring makeup tutorials and our favorite celebrities. For those of you who aren’t familiar with face contouring, it means to highlight and darken specific parts of your face to add depth and height in order to create a new structure. It is similar to the application process used by clowns. If you do this, make sure to stay away from white clothing and cameras with flash.
When wearing makeup you have to ask yourself, will I look like the same person without it? If the answer is no, then you probably over contoured your face. You shouldn’t be unrecognizable to people you love. Instead of trying to look exactly like your favorite celebrity, try to embrace your own beauty. If you are really, really unhappy with your facial structure, the more realistic route to take would be plastic surgery. The great thing about plastic surgery is that you don’t have to do it every morning, it looks great in pictures, it doesn’t rub off on clothing, and most importantly it’s not an illusion.
